Anglo Racing Academy Newsletter
September 2025 Edition 🏎️

We're excited to bring you the latest updates from the track, the workshop, and behind the scenes at Anglo Racing Academy. Whether you’re a past participant, Motorsport enthusiast, or corporate event planner – there’s something in here for you.

Wodonga turned up the heat, and so did our Guest Pro Driver!

2-Seater Guest Driver: Jordan Boys

We hosted Albury’s own Jordan Boys as guest 2-Seater driver. If the name rings a bell, it should, he’s carved a serious path through Australia’s top tiers:

  • Super2 race winner with a best championship finish of P3 in 2020
  • Multiple Bathurst 1000 starts with Brad Jones Racing
  • Supercars wildcard outings at Winton and The Bend
  • Race winner in the S5000 Tasman Series.

Put simply: proper pace, proper pedigree and he put it to work for Anglo passengers at Wodonga.

Give him a follow on socials if you aren't already:

  • @jordanboys49 on Instagram

What that meant for our guests

  • Serious speed, safely delivered: pro racing lines, braking, and rotation you can feel through the seat.
  • Learning by osmosis: even from the passenger seat, you notice how a pro manages weight transfer in a no-aero Formula Ford race car.
  • Stories for days: “My hot-lap driver races Bathurst” is a decent conversation starter.

📸 Event Highlights

Our 6 September Wodonga event was all action from the first out-lap. Drivers stepped into genuine single-seat Formula Fords and discovered why the category still shapes Australia’s best racing talent: no aero, all feel, and addictive mid-corner balance.

🎙️ Paddock 43 Podcast joins the action

We were also fortunate enough to host podcasters Elle and Patricia from the popular F1 podcast Paddock 43. Driving all the way up from Melbourne, they completed our Combo Package consisting of single-seater laps followed by 2-Seater hot laps, capturing the full Anglo Racing Academy experience.

They’ve put together a fantastic blog video on YouTube: Watch here

🛠️ What's On In the Workshop

It’s been all hands on deck at Anglo Racing Academy both in the workshop and at the circuit. Here’s a closer look at what’s been happening in September:

Project 1: From Round Tubes to Race-Ready Wishbones

Most people only see the finished product: a Formula Ford flying around a track, suspension loaded, tyres squealing. But the real story of performance often starts much earlier, in the workshop.

This month, our fabrication team has been working on one of the most crucial components in the car’s suspension system: the wishbones.

Why Wishbones Matter

Wishbones (also called control arms) connect the chassis to the wheels, holding everything in alignment while allowing the suspension to move freely. They need to be:

  • Strong enough to handle heavy braking, kerb strikes, and mid-corner loads.

  • Light enough to reduce unsprung weight and improve responsiveness.

  • Aerodynamic enough to minimise drag and turbulence around the tyres.

In Formula Ford, where there are no wings or diffusers to rely on, details like the shape of a wishbone can make a noticeable difference to efficiency and stability.

The Process: Round to Aero

Step 1 - Raw tubing
It all begins with high-strength round tubing which is durable, but not yet shaped for speed.

Step 2 - Hydraulic press shaping
Using our in-house hydraulic press, we carefully flatten and profile each tube. This step transforms the shape from circular to a sleek, oval-like cross section that slices cleaner through the air. Precision here is key: too much pressure weakens the metal, too little and you don’t gain the aerodynamic edge.

Step 3 - Inspection
Each piece is inspected for uniformity and wall integrity before moving further down the line. Consistency matters, every wishbone must match exact tolerances.

Step 4 - Cutting and grinding
Once shaped, the tubes are cut to size, ground, and deburred. This ensures smooth edges for strength, safety, and a professional finish.

The wishbones are then mounted into jigs to confirm geometry and fit. Correct alignment here means sharper handling once the suspension is under load on track.

The final product is a strong, lightweight, aero-profiled wishbone ready to bolt into a Formula Ford - proof that engineering precision translates directly to performance.

All this work in the workshop delivers real results:

  • Reduced drag from cleaner airflow.

  • Sharper handling thanks to accurate geometry.

  • Durability from knowing every weld, press, and grind was done in-house to our standards.

Formula Ford has always been about purity: no wings, no downforce, no driver aids. It’s just the driver, the chassis, and the stopwatch. That’s why every small engineering improvement counts.

When you strap into one of our single-seaters, you’re not only experiencing the thrill of raw performance, you’re also feeling the outcome of countless hours of craftsmanship in the Anglo workshop.

Project 2: Billet Aluminium Uprights

In motorsport, the best engineering often hides in plain sight. Case in point: the upright, which is a crucial suspension component that sits at the heart of every Formula Ford.

From Block to Performance

This month in the Anglo workshop, our engineers have been machining brand new uprights from billet aluminium. Starting with a single solid block, each upright is carefully shaped through CNC machining, drilled, and finished to exact tolerances.

Why Billet Matters

  • Strength & Reliability: By machining from one solid block, we avoid welds or joins that can create weaknesses under load.

  • Weight Reduction: Uprights are part of the car’s unsprung mass. Lighter components here mean the tyres stay glued to the tarmac, translating to better grip and responsiveness.

  • Precision Engineering: Every angle, hole, and bearing seat is machined to exact specification. The result: suspension geometry that behaves predictably, lap after lap.

Formula Ford is unique: no wings, no electronic aids, no power steering. That makes components like uprights even more important. Every vibration, weight transfer, and micro-adjustment flows through this part before it reaches the driver’s hands and feet.

What you feel in the cockpit isn’t just “car control” it’s the outcome of hours of engineering in the workshop. From billet block to gleaming upright, these components embody our pursuit of precision.

Project 3: Machining Brake Disks

When you think about racing, you probably picture acceleration, speed, and apex-hunting corner exits. But ask any race engineer and they’ll tell you: performance starts with confidence under brakes.

The Hidden Hero of Performance

At Anglo Racing Academy, our Formula Fords spend their lives being pushed to the limit and that means their brake discs work harder than most. After dozens of heat cycles and thousands of high-pressure stops, discs develop wear patterns, pad deposits, and surface inconsistencies. Left unchecked, this can lead to vibration, reduced stopping power, and inconsistent pedal feel.

The Solution: Lathe Machining

In our workshop, discs are mounted on a precision lathe and machined back to spec.

This process:

  • Removes glazing caused by high heat.

  • Levels out wear, restoring a perfectly flat surface.

  • Extends disc life by refreshing instead of replacing.

The end result is a disc that looks and performs like new without compromising safety or performance.

Why It Matters to You

When you climb into one of our Formula Fords, you’ll quickly discover that braking is every bit as thrilling as acceleration. Late, controlled braking is what separates the quick from the very quick. By maintaining our discs in-house, we guarantee that every pedal press gives you confidence to brake later, deeper, and harder.

It’s a small detail, but like everything in motorsport, the details make the difference.

📸 Experience Day Highlights: Friday 19th & Saturday 20th September

There’s nothing routine about an Anglo Driving Experience. Each event has its own stories, challenges, and moments of adrenaline that stick with participants long after they climb out of the car.

In the Driver’s Seat
From the moment helmets went on, the transformation was clear. Participants weren’t just guests, they became drivers, taking control of genuine Formula Ford race cars. No traction control, no assists, no passenger, just them and the car. Lap after lap, confidence grew as they leaned into corners, felt the tyres bite, and discovered the razor-sharp precision of open-wheel driving.

Life in the Pits
The pits were buzzing with energy. Engines crackled, tyres squealed, and the smell of hot brakes filled the air. Families and friends capturing every moment as the drivers blasted past. The camaraderie was unmistakable with mates ribbing each other, first-timers swapping stories, and spectators sharing in the rush.

Hot Laps That Steal the Show
When the two-seater fired up, all eyes turned. Those lucky enough to strap in for a passenger hot lap walked away wide-eyed, describing it as “the fastest thing I’ve ever done.” It’s one thing to drive - it’s another to feel the raw pace when one of our pro drivers unleashes the car’s full potential.

Every Anglo event has one common thread: pure motorsport joy. Whether you’re behind the wheel or cheering from the pit wall, it’s an experience that captures the spirit of racing and leaves you wanting more.
